If I had to pick the best decision my cousin Matt ever made it would hands down be marrying Kristen! She completed that side of our family tree & I love her dearly. [I love Matt too]. When they announced they were pregnant with their first child a few years ago I was ecstatic. Stella was due a couple of months after Coach & I were married and it completed my summer. I drove to Arkansas to be there for one of her showers and when they told us they were expecting again I knew I wanted to make another trip!
During a random phone conversation with my aunt she mentioned the shower date. On a whim I checked flights to Little Rock and right away booked myself a seat & then sent them all a text basically inviting myself for the weekend and to the shower. Stella & I both started counting down almost immediately and while it took time away from work and a drive to Dallas it was 100% worth it.
My plane was scheduled to leave Dallas at 4:05 but we were overbooked & therefore late taking off. I sat with two men who are incredibly involved with public education in Arkansas and the flight passed quickly. The minute I hit baggage claim Stella was hugging me & refusing to let go. I haven't seen this little girl since my younger brother graduated from high school last May. Major props to her parents & Mimi for being intentional about her knowing about her Texas branch of the family. That welcome to Arkansas was for sure Top Three moments of the weekend. When I saw my grandparents sitting in baggage claim I teared up a bit. My Papwaw turns 83 this month and every time I visit I am reminded of what a blessing it is to spend time with both him & my Mamwaw.
We had a great dinner out with each other and went to my grandparents to sleep. An extra special treat was that my aunt stayed at my grandparents for the weekend as well. I have a special relationship with her and it was great to spend time together.
Saturday morning my grandmother cooked a big breakfast and we headed to the shower for Braydon & his mama. Some of my grandmother's friends attended as well and I loved being loved on by them. We capped off our Saturday out with lunch as a family and somehow convinced Stella's parents we should keep her for the night! It was an afternoon of playtime & coloring with my girl. Popcorn and a Hallmark movie ended our night before Stella couldn't keep her eyes open any longer.
Saying "see-ya later" to my family is always difficult and I am so glad Stella was asleep when they pulled up to the airport drop! A teary-eyed Mamwaw and brave faced Papwaw was hard enough to take. Thankfully my aunt kept me laughing as I went to check in.
Stella has a dance recital in June and I am already scheming of how I can make a return trip in time to see her dance. Coach & I have decided that a trip once a quarter is absolutely a necessary thing from now on.
Celebrating milestones wth family is such a blessing! Grateful to have been there to celebrate a new life coming soon. Till next time,
